Perhaps I am speaking out of turn, as I've no frame of reference, but your father seems a very petty and vindictive man. It's little wonder that he inspires such feelings in you, doctor, and that you find it difficult to disconnect from them. It seems as if he wishes to effortlessly claim responsibility to all of your characteristics and achievements which he finds desirable - while simultaneously scoffing at the idea that he could be accountable for anything about you which he dislikes. It took grand courage to meet with him.
I can gather only in the slightest way how infuriating it must have been. His point about science being a 'boys' club' was enough to make me frown upon reading it. Yet, somehow, I feel myself more unsettled at the fact that his point was, in many ways, right.
